photoshop skills

this is an image i have changed on photoshop elements. i have made the main image of wentworth miller stand out by blurring out the background. i did this by cutting around wentworth miller, inversing it, feathing it, contracted it and then added a guassion blur. i repeated this many times changing the contract amount aswell as increaseing the blur.

i might use this technique on my final mahazine cover as i think is makes a huge difference and makes the main image stand out more and shows the importance of it.

Evaluation

throughout this project i have created a magazine front cover for a school and a mock up for the contents page.
i have thought about the target audience which is students attending the school aswell as the parents. i have layed out the text appropriately and positioned the cover image to fit in with the straplines. i have added a film strip as my kicker as this adds tpo the media theme running through my magazine. some of the text also is in a different font to make the writing stand out and relate more to media.
i have chosen the colour navy blue, white and yellow on my magazine as these colours go well together. the navy will be more formal and will be apropriate to parents whereas the white and yellow with target students as these are brighter, more fun colours.
i thought part of my tasks were easy whereas other parts were challenging. i have learnt new skills on photoshop and publisher.
for my actual coursework, i will use a different style of image as i am not sure on the image i used in this task. i like the idea of the refelction shot in the apple mac but it has come out more blurry than i thought. it is also not to clear of what the reflection is in.

contents page

This is my contents page for my magazine cover. I have kept the same masterhead as the fornt cover and added the contents text underneath it. I have used the same image but given it a faded effect on the edges and put my text around the image ratehr than over it. I have also put my logo in at the top right hand corner.

Magazine with straplines

This is my magazine with the Flash as shown in my previous post and now with the Straplines on it aswell as the masthead. i have changed the 1st image on the film strip from a student to an apple mac computer as this gives the reader an idea of the reflection shot in the mac.

Camera Flash

On this magazine layout, I have added a flash on the camera. I did this on photoshop by clicking filter, render and then on lens flare. I then chose the 105mm Prime and positioned it where I wanted it.

I chose to add this flash as it shows to be more like a camera and the audience will have a clear understnading about it and they will relaize that it alos relates to media, the main focus of my magazine.

This is the layout of my maagzine with the straplines in it. i have made the straplines and masterhead on publisher. some of the words in my straplines are in a different font to make them stand out.

This is my final layout for my magazine. I have chosen the colour navy blue, white and yellow because these are the school colours and white stands out. The cover image is of 2 students. It is a reflection shot in an apple mac computer. In this image you can see media technology such as a camera and the mac. As the kicker, I have made a film strip containing different pictures to do with the school. I have got my straplines going down the left hand side of the magazine in a white font. Some words are written in a different font style to make the stand out. I have got the skyline at the top containing the school moto and the school logo underneath it on the right hand side.

this is the image i am going to use for my cover image on my school magazine. i took this image because it shows students and in the reflection shows a camera relating to media. in the image is also a apple mac computer, once again relating to media. the image is a media close up. i am going to change the image and make it more clearer.

Mock up of magazine

this is a mock up and rough idea of my magazine front cover. i am going to use navy, yellow and white as these are the school colours. Navy is a very formal colour wheras yellow is more fun and exciting. These colours will attract both a target audience of the students as well as parents. my masthead and skyline will be placed where they are in this mock up and my kicker will be the film strip at the bottom with images in. the main image will be more to the right and my straplines will go down the lefthand side.

Film Strip

I have created a film strip in adobe photoshop. In the film strip are images of students from Lordswood Girls school. This image potrays media and film and goes well will the masthead as my magazine is mainly focused on media at Lordswood Girls School. I am going to position my film strip at the bottom of the magazine as the kicker.

Dwell Magazine

I got the image of keira Knightly off google. I chose this image because the colour of her top goes well with the colours of the magazine which are orange grey and white. The image also fits with the strapline about Keira Knightly. She is wearing a very low cut top with her bra showing. this also fits with the stapline as it says, "on life, love and sex..." I had covered the masthead because it shows the magazine is well known. I used the colour orange because it fits with the kicker at them bottom which rlates to autumn. My magazine is aimed at women aged 20-30years. The price of the magazine has been crossed out and another price placed underneath to show the orignal and new price. It is in a bubble to grab the audiences attention. The barcode is at the bottom right hand corner as this is where you would normally find the barecode on a magazine. My magazine follows the conventions of a typical magazine because i have used a limit of 3 colours, and 2 different fonts. The layout is also similar to a typical magazine as i have the cover image, masthead, kicker, straplines and a skyline. My magazine is built up of 4-5 layers. the typography stands out against the image and is easy to read and understand.
